Frequently Asked Questions

1

What is Roamtas?

RoamTas is a locally owned Tasmanian touring business offering small-group Tasmania Tag-a-long adventures, scenic road trips, and relaxed touring experiences led by Phillip, a proud Tasmanian.

2

How many vehicles on tour?

We intentionally want to keep our tours small and personal. Our November tour is limited to just 6 vehicles (excluding Phillip's vehicle) to ensure a relaxed experience and allow everyone to connect along the journey.

3

Where do the tours start and finish?

After you arrive on the Spirit of Tasmania, and drive 1 hr to Launceston, our Inaugural RoamTas tour in November will begin and finish in Launceston. Itinerary details are provided on request.

4

What accommodation do we stay in?

RoamTas tours generally use a mix of Motels, Cabins, Boutique accommodation, and Eco-style stays. We focus on comfortable accommodation close to the best locations and experiences.

5

Is there a height restriction for vehicles on the Spirit of Tasmania?

There is a vehicle height guideline of 2.1 metres for the November 2026 RoamTas tag-along tour . Most standard 4WDs fall within this limit.

From our experience travelling on the Spirit of Tasmania, they are generally quite reasonable with vehicle heights unless the setup is obviously over-height — for example large rooftop tents, excessive roof storage, or heavily modified vehicles.

If you are unsure about your vehicle setup, feel free to contact Phillip prior to booking this trip and he will happily discuss it with you.

My vehicle isn't a 4wd

Ideally, you will have a 4WD or AWD vehicle with reasonable ground clearance. The RoamTas Explorer trip is designed to suit vehicles such as Subaru Foresters, Outbacks and similar, not heavily modified off-road vehicles.

The best approach is to have a quick chat with Phillip before booking. He can talk through your vehicle, the trip route and whether it will be suitable.

What is a Tag-a-Long?

Think of it as a Tassie road trip with locals leading the way. You drive your own vehicle, we handle the planning, routes, group coordination, and local knowledge. You will feel very much a part of the adventure
